Background
Choose Energy offers an online shopping interface allowing Texas residents to compare electricity rates and offers from retail energy providers and sign up online.
Challenge
Texas deregulated its electricity market in 2002. As part of deregulation, Texas residents are free to shop and switch energy providers. Choose Energy recognized an opportunity to bring shop-and-switch to the web. The solution enabled buyers, but also allowed service providers to adjust pricing and offers on the fly for a truly competitive market.
Results
The results of the Choose Energy solution dramatically influenced the way consumers approach the purchase of electricity in a very complex deregulated environment. Choose Energy provided a tool for customers looking to save money and get improved customer service by helping them find the right provider for their needs. The increased visibility gave energy providers valuable market insight. The application is still in use and profitable today.
